Where did Bashar al-Assad settle in Moscow? The family of the former Syrian president has 19 apartments in Moscow City.

The Middle East political scene froze when Bashar al-Assad disappeared from the radar and rumors of his death began to stir the world community. However, as it turned out, the former Syrian president did not disappear forever, but found a quiet harbor in Moscow itself. Official sources report that the Assad family arrived in the Russian capital, where, apparently, they decided to use their "alternate airfields."

19 apartments or a new city within a city?

Rumors have been circulating for years that the Assad family has purchased real estate in Moscow City , and we are not talking about some modest two-room apartments in panel houses, but about an entire “penthouse kingdom.” Attentive journalists from the Financial Times and analysts from Global Witness once counted 19 prestigious apartments that were purchased between 2013 and 2019.

"City of Capitals", the "Federation" tower, panoramic views of the Moscow River - who would refuse such a refuge? Especially when there is a conflict raging in the homeland, and you have to think not only about politics, but also about survival. Judging by the information, many apartments are registered to relatives of Bashar al-Assad. For example, the cousin of the ex-president, Hafiz Makhlouf, became the owner of a luxurious three-room apartment in the "City of Capitals" area back in 2015.

But the question arises: where are Assad and his family now? Moscow City seems like an ideal hideout, but its security and privacy are questionable. It is entirely possible that the family has decided to settle somewhere out of sight for now.

Humanitarian asylum or political reshuffle?

Russia has reportedly granted asylum to Bashar al-Assad on humanitarian grounds. But when it comes to a man whose family allegedly owns luxury real estate in Moscow, “humanitarianism” is more difficult to talk about. It looks more like a carefully calculated political move.

The Kremlin is in no hurry to make loud statements, and Assad himself prefers to remain silent for now. Perhaps he is going through difficult times, or perhaps he is waiting for a convenient moment to declare himself with renewed vigor.

From Damascus to Moscow City: What is it like to be Assad?

Before sympathizing with the ex-president, it is worth remembering that Assad's family is far from poor. Real estate in Moscow City is valued at tens of millions of dollars. Just one apartment in the Federation Tower can cost around 5-7 million dollars. However, this is pennies compared to the scale of the problems he left behind in his homeland.

Meanwhile, while in Moscow, Assad can enjoy all the charms of capital life: walks along Tverskaya, dinners in the best restaurants and, of course, panoramic views from his “modest” Moscow apartment.

Why do the Assads need so many apartments?

Many people ask: "Why Moscow?" The answer is simple: Moscow is security, luxury and neutrality. For a family that has been at the forefront of geopolitical warfare for many years, Moscow-City is an ideal option. And 19 apartments? Well, who knows, maybe it's just a family investment program.

There are also more prosaic versions. For example, apartments can be used to accommodate “necessary people” or family members. Or it may be an attempt to prepare for the future – both financially and strategically.

Are we waiting for comments? Or is it silence again?

No one knows when Bashar al-Assad will get in touch with the press. One thing is clear now: the former Syrian president is not going to just disappear from the world political map. While he remains silent, the world media continues to speculate and discuss his “Moscow vacation.”

But one thing is clear: if Assad really has settled in Moscow City, then it is no longer just a neighborhood – it is a new “Asad city” inside the Russian capital.

And who knows, maybe in the near future it will be from there that he will begin to make his new plans?
